HERO Marshalling – Get involved in 2012.

HERO is gearing up to get fully involved in organising events and shows for 2012.

This involvement begins on the 25th & 26th February with Race Retro held at Stoneleigh Park. HERO is a main sponsor of the show and the HERO village will be located in Hall 1.

An innovation for 2012 is that HERO are running a live action display where visitors to the show can drive a classic car from the HERO fleet and sample what it is like to drive one of the cars on a Le Jog type test. If this seems too challenging there are opportunities for a photo shoot with the car of your choice.

In preparation for finding marshals for the forthcoming events the HERO marshal’s database is currently being updated. It would be a great help if you have marshalled for HERO in the past, but have not been active recently, to update me with your current contact information.New to HERO marshals can register through me for inclusion on the marshal’s database.

Marshals are vital to the success of any event and this applies more so to HERO where there are many and varied controls throughout its events.For example last year’s Le Jog utilised 201 controls and 34 tests which required in excess of 650 marshals throughout its three and a half day duration.

HERO marshals can find themselves operating in some of the most picturesque locations in the country and sometimes in the pleasant surroundings of a local hostelry, fine hotel or stately home. They can also find themselves in pitch black freezing conditions in the midst of a gale – but they are a hardy lot.One overall benefit is the camaraderie HERO events engender not only between the marshals but also between the marshals and competitors.HERO competitors are always quick to acknowledge the hard work and effort demonstrated by the marshals and also their good humour.

HERO has a unique place within the Classic Car movement in that it not only organises and runs events but it has also branched out into other areas establishing partnerships which are of benefit to the HERO Premier Membership.
