Scottish Malts Trial and Tour - 24th to 29th April 2016
HERO Scottish Malts Classic Reliability Trial and Classic Car Tour is the premier classic car event in Scotland.
'The Malts' as it has become affectionately known is a classic blend of regularities and driving tests set in the beautiful scenery Scotland provides. 2016 will see the 15th running of the event, starting from the shores of Loch Lomond, The Malts has something for everyone. The social side is another reason the event is so popular, we always aim to have everyone back for dinner and to swap stories of the day's action.
The roads of Scotland are quiet away from the cities, they provide us with some of the best driving and scenery in the United Kingdom, from sweeping moorland to famous passes such as Bealach Na Ba, or Pass Of The Cattle in English, we guarantee that you will enjoy the experience of these stunning lanes.
The Malts gets its name from the whisky distilleries we visit along the way, traditionally we try and site some driving tests at these venues, but we also visit castles, stately homes and attractions en route, the variation is wonderful. If you would rather not drive your vehicle competitively, there is a seperate tour, entrants on the classic car tour cover a shorter route and are provided with a specially printed map book, detailed but simple route directions, and touring notes of places of interest along the way. Tour entrants are free to visit whichever attractions they wish, but as long as they arrive back at the hotel in time for dinner!
Competitively, The Scottish Malts route is designed to appeal to a wide range of abilities, the Tulip road book is clear and easy to follow, the event is perfect for first time competitors as well as seasoned experts. Driving tests and regularities are mainly held on sealed surfaces, there may be a small amount of loose surface driving. The event has no planned night time driving, and is classified as Introductory, suitable for any level of experience.
Starting from and finishing in the luxurious setting and surroundings of Cameron House Hotel on the shores of Loch Lomond, "The Malts" combines competitive driving in superb scenery with hospitality to match. The successful format will remain the same, straightforward regularity sections on some of the finest roads Scotland has to offer and driving tests over private land. The event runs over six days and is based mainly on non-damaging sealed surfaces, navigation is by easy to read tulip diagrams and the pace is such that it allows driver and navigator to take in some of the fantastic countryside (and distilleries!) that surround Scotland.
The ever popular Scottish Malts Classic Car Tour will be run in conjunction with the Reliability Trial and is intended for crews looking for a less demanding motoring experience. Entrants on the Classic Car Tour can choose to follow the same route as the Trial but are provided with a specially printed map book and are free to visit places that interest them, whilst always aiming to arrive at the hotel in time for dinner!
The Malts is aimed at a wide range of competitors, the navigation and route are designed to allow those who have never competed before enjoy the challenge and excitement of a truly international event, but still able to test the experienced crews who compete on the event.
