HERO Cup qualifying roundThe 2011 Throckmorton Challenge will take place at RAF Pershore at Throckmorton, Worcestershire on Saturday 15th October 2011. The event is a qualifying round in the HERO Cup and is one of the final rounds in the 2011 HRCR Clubman’s Championship.

The 2010 Throckmorton challenge, a one-day event held on the QinetiQ site near Pershore, offered a full day of competition at an affordable fee and was considered a resounding success by all those who took part. New to HERO’s calendar of events, the Throckmorton Challenge aimed to satisfy those on a limited budget or with constraints on their free time. The 2011 event will be the same. Fun Competitive and affordable!Throckmorton

Open to cars built before 1984, the 2011 Throckmorton Challenge will be run in accordance with HERO’s Standard Regulations and cars will be classified by age, engine size and body type.

The inaugural Throckmorton Challenge held in October 2010 came about following a discussion between HERO’s Event Director, Peter Nedin, and the head of the QinetiQ site at RAF Pershore. HERO had been looking for a suitable venue to host a one day event to encourage competitors new to endurance rallying to learn more about Classic Reliability Trials promoted by the Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation.

Throckmorton also presented an opportunity to run an event with as many tests in one day as are normally experienced on Le Jog. The tests, interspersed with a hand-full of regularities, gave competitors the chance to hone their skills. The Throckmortonregularities were within loops that started and finished on site, with the main controls all located at one central point – the HERO hospitality marquee with a never ending supply of free coffee and tea for competitors.

Scrutineering, documentation, lunch, the evening buffet and the awards presentation were all conducted in the heated marquee on site, making the entire event compact and easy to handle.
This in turn meant a competitive entry fee of £150.

The format of the 2011 Throckmorton challenge will be similar to that of 2010. There will be up 15 driving tests and three or four regularities, one or  more may be on private ground. The  driving tests will vary in length and complexity but no two will be the same. To avoid delays occurring when  having to move marshals or cones around a large airfield, tests used more than once at a specific location will increase in difficulty on consecutive  runs, making the event a challenge for both driver and co-driver.

Regularities will not be overlooked, and you can be assured that those of you who relish the prospect of difficult regularities will not be disappointed. There will be no trickery, and navigation will be by Tulip roadbook.

Entry forms and regulations are availbe at the bottom of the page. The fee includes entry for a crew of two, lunch, an evening buffet, Tulip roadbook and an endless supply of coffee. On-site caterers will be available throughout the day for those who get peckish when at the main control. Throckmorton

Documentation and scrutineering will be held on site the night before each event, with a limited number of places available for scrutineering on the morning prior to the start.
